Rob Bedichek's PCT Through Hike -- April to September, 1999

Pacific Crest Trail Map

SCHEDULE - CONTACT ME - PROGRESS - EQUIPMENT WHY/OTHER HIKERS -

I plan to spend mid April through mid September walking from the California/Mexico border to the Washington/Canada border. I'll be on the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail, which covers about 1000 direct miles and is about 2650 miles on the ground. This trail is open to hikers and horse people and every year a few hundred people set out to hike the whole trail. To read why I am going and for links to other PCT hiker's web pages, click here.

I've put together these web pages to help answer the many questions I get from family and friends about what I am up to. Also, these pages help me coordinate the trip with others. The equipment list and resupply list may be useful to my girl friend, Annie, who is sending me parcels while I'm on my trip. I also hope that friends will meet me on the trail to hike part of it with me! If you would like to do that, or need to reach me, click here. Annie will put updates on my progress here.

Using Craig's PCT Planner, I generated the following schedule and elevation graph and elevation graph with location labels (five panels). The PCTA's map of the trail (courtesy of David Krogmann)

A list of backpacking food and a disclaimer. A common pair of questions I get from friends are "will you bring a cell phone?" and "isn't it risky to be alone?". People also ask if I am taking a GPS (I am not). But I am taking a tiny ham radio transceiver. I will send it home if it does not prove useful.

Other trips I've taken, my list of things I still need to do, and my permit.
